CBL Founding

Back in 2011, when we began this journey, “clean beauty” wasn’t a buzzword like it is today. In fact, most people unquestionably accepted the fact that getting your hair colored involved holding your nose. As hair artists, not only were we concerned about the effects this may be having on our customers, but we also wondered what inhaling those harsh odors might do to us, the salon workers. 

Mauro confides, “I just grew so frustrated with seeing my clients suffer from skin irritation, even burned skin. I knew in my heart there had to be a better way.” And that’s when the quest truly began. Mauricio began researching common ingredients and searching for alternatives, looking near and far for new brands, and seeking out those with a similar vision.   

When Malvin joined the project, we knew we had a team and a common purpose. Malvin’s background in nutritional science and Mauro’s passion for nature merged to form a science-based, organic-focused approach to beauty care. We decided to open up a new salon together founded on a radical concept – Clean Beauty. Back then there was no “clean beauty market” - we developed our dream into a concept that became a new way forward for many, you could even say a movement.

    Since day one, our commitment has always been anchored in offering the best alternative professional hair color and hair care. However, we had no idea how big it would get. As word got around, more and more women began to seek us out. We knew we had started something powerful when we saw the number of pregnant women that began contacting us because they wanted to continue looking good during their pregnancy but were also trying to live as cleanly as possible during the baby’s gestation period. And it only grew from there.

    Troves of new clients came, some with skin sensitivities seeking hypo-allergenic hair care, Vegans, environmentalists, animal lovers, and anyone seeking to bring their self-care practices more in line with their enlightened worldview.

    The rest is history. Today, we are leaders in the clean beauty movement that has expanded around us as the era of conscious living has gained momentum.  We have continued evolving as well.  While it was possible to find effective and environmentally responsible products at the far edges of the beauty industry for use in the salon, we also decided to follow our instincts and indulge our curiosity, so we began researching and developing our own signature product line.

    “If you can’t find it, build it.” And that we did. We partnered with a renowned Australian botanist and nature lover and began to develop science-based, lab-tested, organic, Vegan and human-friendly hair care products.

    With a passion for both beauty and personal growth, Mauricio founded the Clean Beauty Lab as a space where innovation meets wellness. The CBL philosophy prioritizes the use of organic and non-toxic products in our services, ensuring that the benefits not only enhance appearance but also support overall well-being.

    Mauricio is also the founder of El Bienser—a platform dedicated to fostering emotional growth, self-awareness, and holistic wellness. Through this community, Mauricio guides individuals on a transformative journey of personal development, emotional intelligence, mindfulness, and conscious living. The goal is to help people connect with their inner hero and achieve lasting change in their lives.

    This dual approach to wellness supports clients in achieving both external beauty and internal harmony, recognizing that true wellness encompasses both physical and emotional health.

    Malvin Almanzar is a visionary New York City stylist, founder and leader of the Clean Beauty Lab, a thriving enterprise he's helped build from the ground up. With a Master of Science from New York University, Malvin combines his expertise as a professional hair colorist and image consultant with a passion for understanding the mind and body. Known for his meticulously detailed blonde projects and impeccable results, he delivers personalized color designs tailored to each client.

    A yoga and travel enthusiast, Malvin frequently returns to his native Dominican Republic to connect with his roots. As he leads the Clean Beauty Lab, he continues to pave the way for future brand collaborations, blending his artistic talents with his entrepreneurial vision.  Outside the salon, Malvin finds new creative expressions through his fashion sense, acting, singing, cooking, and drawing, always infusing artistry into every facet of his life.
